Easier in what sense? Personally I'd say as service mesh is the easier option as it does all the heavy lifting for you, alternative solutions will add additional overhead or effort (eg an "easy" alternative might be baking Auth into the services themselves, but you've got the effort of building and maintaining it)

I am not keen on sidecars and ebpf seems to be a moving target. I follow Cilium and the amount of oddity with recent kernels is mindblowing
