I would like to self host Ory but I have a few questions about Ory Oathkeeper Is there anyway I can use it as a middleware inside of my backend apps rather than acting as a firewall between the backend app and the client ? May be if I wanna do that I just dont need Oathkeeper ? I don't know... 😄

Yes that is a valid option. Mind you that Oathkeeper's APIs for that are not stable yet and might change.
