I'm highly interested in seeing this feature implemented but sadly don't know any Go. Is there some kind of possibility of placing a bounty on that feature? I've never done that before, so I'm unsure what amount would be expected (and if I can afford it in the first place 😄) https://github.com/ory/kratos/issues/2898
CC @high-optician-2097 since it's your issue
h
Hey :) Glad to have you in Ory! Yes that feature has long been on the roadmap but we always have more important things. Are you working for a company or on your own? :)
a
I'm working for a company
The approach mentioned in the comment by kmherrmann would also be acceptable, I'm assuming (no clue how the codebase is structured) that it'd possibly be easier to implement
I.e. removing this constraint from identity-modifying webhooks:
Modifying the identity is currently only possible during the registration and settings flows.
h
Ok, if you use Ory Network with the scale plan I’ll talk to product management to prio it and get it shipped asap. Would that work for your company? Basically the problem is that we currently have a lot of work from paying customers and it’s hard to work on anything else because others are paying and would then be mad if we deprioritize their things
a
We are sadly self-hosting Kratos, that's why I brought up the idea of a one-time bounty :/ I fully understand if it's not possible though
There seem to be ways to modify identities via the API, so a workaround should be possible to implement
h
no problem! if you’re self hosting we do have a support agreement that can also cover stuff like this! might be a good idea anyways if you’re running ory in production
a
Are there details on the pricing somewhere? I could only find prices related to Ory Network. We also aren't using Kratos in production just yet, but a support contract does sound like a good idea long-term
h
not yet because it is a relatively new offering we have, but if we could hop on a call and understand what you need (apart from the feature) to discuss. no strings attached :)
we are going to set up a website for this in the coming week(s)
w
@high-optician-2097 could you please notify me once the website is live?
h
@fast-lunch-54279 @curved-nail-40535 please notify @wide-dawn-74672 when its liv

Hi. Sure will do. In the meantime you can have a look at https://www.ory.sh/professional-services/. Currently the service packages described here are focusing on Ory Network, but there will be an overlap with the services we are planning to offer for Ory self-host customers. So maybe this can already give you an overview on the different offerings. In terms of pricing we won't communicate much on the web pages, since the type/amount and scope of help and support is depend on the your setup/required support. But feel free to reach out to sales@ory.sh or book a quick meeting via https://www.ory.sh/contact/

@high-optician-2097 With the component using Kratos still being in early stages of development, I don't know if I can come up with requirements beyond that one feature and generic stuff like "prioritized bug reports", definitely not enough to fill a call 😄 I think I'd wait until the website goes live or until I have a better picture of our support requirements
h
ah i see, totally understand! unfortunately there is no bounty program at the moment. so the fastest way is probably contributing code 🙂
it’s most likely some finding the right place, copy & pasting around, writing tests (probably the “difficult” part)
a
I'll look into it when I have the time. Though I'm worried that that restriction mentioned above exists for a reason 😅
Seems like you were the one who initially introduced webhooks that can update identities, is there any specific reason you didn't support doing the same for login flows or was it just out of scope
h
don’t quite remember but probably time constraints
l
@high-optician-2097 is this something that you'd welcome community contributions on?
I'd love to get more involved in ory development, and maybe this or the discord changes would be a good place to start; not super important to ory, but could add small value perhaps.
h
absolutely!
a
I'd appreciate it a lot!
